Hamas Movement expressed its regret over the statement issued by the White House, signed by eighteen countries, calling for the release of Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip while ignoring the suffering of Palestinians living under the Israeli war and genocide since October 7th.

In a statement released on Friday, Hamas said, “In the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), we have followed with interest the statement issued by the White House, signed by eighteen countries, which primarily called for the release of prisoners in the Gaza Strip. We express our regret for the statement’s failure to address the fundamental issues of our people who are suffering under a comprehensive genocidal war. It does not emphasize the necessity of a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of the (Israeli) occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, in addition to the ambiguity surrounding other provisions.”

Hamas reiterated its openness to any ideas or proposals that take into account the needs and just rights of the Palestinian people, including the final cessation of aggression against them, the withdrawal of occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, the unconditional or unrestricted return of displaced persons to their homes in the governorates of Gaza City and North Gaza, and all areas of the Strip. It also includes reconstruction, lifting the siege, providing the Palestinian people with all their humanitarian and relief needs, and progressing towards a serious agreement for the exchange of prisoners. This should be done along the path of achieving the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people including self-determination and the establishment of their independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Movement also called on the US administration, the countries that signed the statement, and the international community to expose the genocide committed by the “Zionist enemy against children and innocent civilians in the Gaza Strip and to exert pressure to end it as an urgent priority.” It also called for standing against the policies of the “terrorist Netanyahu, who seeks to drag the region into the abyss for personal political calculations and to fulfill the desires of his extremist right-wing allies who oppose any attempt to reach a just agreement that ends the aggression and releases the prisoners and detainees.”
