The World Food Program (WFP) expressed concern on Tuesday over the closure of Rafah and Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossings, crucial routes for getting humanitarian aid into the besieged Gaza Strip.

“WFP is concerned about the closure of Kerem Shalom and Rafah crossings, posing challenges for aid delivery,” WFP said on X.

“Current WFP stocks only cover 1–4 days of needs in Rafah, Deir Al Balah and Khan Yunis,” it warned.

The Israeli army said early on Tuesday that its forces have seized control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing from southern Gaza into Egypt.

After the Hamas Movement announced late Monday that it had accepted a Qatari-Egyptian proposal for a cease-fire in Gaza, Israel’s War Cabinet nonetheless decided to push ahead with an operation in Rafah.

The Israeli army issued immediate evacuation orders early Monday for Palestinians in eastern Rafah.

Rafah is home to more than 1.5 million displaced Palestinians who have taken refuge from the war launched by Israel on Oct. 7.
