The Hamas Movement welcomed the announcement of Armenia to officially recognize the State of Palestine, considering it an additional move towards the international recognition of the rights of the Palestinian people and its aspirations to liberation by terminating the Israeli occupation and establishing the Palestinian independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

In a statement on Friday, Hamas reiterated its call on the countries of the world to take similar steps to support the Palestinian people in its struggle with the Israeli occupation, and to isolate Israel for committing genocide and ethnic cleansing crimes against the Palestinian people.

Earlier on Friday, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement, that Armenia has officially recognized the Palestinian state, bringing the number of states which recognized Palestine to 148 out of 193 member states of the United Nations General Assembly.

The statement added that Armenia supports the United Nations resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, stressing that it is “fully convinced that this is the only way to ensure the ability of Palestinians and Israelis to achieve their legitimate aspirations.”

Spain, Norway, Ireland, and Slovenia have previously announced the recognition of the State of Palestine last month, which was condemned by Tel Aviv at the time, considering it a reward for Hamas and summoning its ambassadors in those countries.

Britain, Australia, and Malta have indicated in the past few months that they may recognize the Palestinian state. However, the efforts made for the State of Palestine to obtain full membership in the United Nations have been met with a US opposition at the UN Security Council.
