Sa’eda Al-Barghouti, the wife of the al-Qassam Brigades leader and sentenced-to-life prisoner Abdullah Al-Barghouti, revealed that he has been subjected to severe torture that led to fractures in his rib cage after being beaten at the hands of Israeli jailers in Shatta prison.

Al-Barghouti’s wife told Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed newspaper on Sunday that Israeli jailers stormed the cells of the prisoners in Shatta prison and beat them severely.

Al-Barghouti, 52, is from the town of Beit Rima near Ramallah and was one of the most prominent leaders of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas.

Al-Barghouti, who is an engineer, writer, author, and novelist, was arrested in 2003, and sentenced to life imprisonment for 67 times, and 5,200 years, for carrying out seven resistance operations that led to the killing of 67 Israelis and injuring 500 others. Since his arrest, Al-Barghouti spent 10 years in solitary confinement.

Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are being subjected to fierce attacks, especially among prisoners of the Al-Qassam Brigades, including Ibrahim Hamid, who was subjected, over two months ago, to an assassination attempt after he was subjected to severe beating in Gilboa prison, which caused him bruises, wounds, and heavy bleeding from the head.
