Member of Hamas’s political bureau Ezzat al-Resheq has said that Haaretz’s report about the use of Palestinian civilians as human shields during Israeli military operations and incursions has vindicated further that the occupation army is persistent in committing war crimes, calling on the international community to condemn such practices.

In a statement on Tuesday, Resheq called on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to include Israeli soldiers’ confessions mentioned in Haaretz’s report in its file of Israeli war crimes.

The Hamas official also urged international human rights groups to expose and denounce these Israeli violations and work on taking legal action against Israeli leaders.

In its report on Tuesday, Haaretz news website said it had obtained recent confessions from Israeli soldiers confirming the Israeli army’s use of Gazan civilians as human shields during operations to search sites and tunnels, where there could be resistance fighters or booby traps.

The Haaretz investigation could add weight to the genocide case against Israel, which was filed by South Africa at the ICJ in December 2023.

Several countries including Türkiye, Nicaragua, Colombia, Libya, Mexico, Palestine and Spain have joined the case, seeking accountability for the horrific war crimes and grave human rights violations committed by Israel against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
