DCI: Israel’s crimes against children rendered int’l law “meaningless”

LONDON, (PIC)

Defense for Children International (DCI) has described the international laws and conventions that protect children as “meaningless” in light of Israel’s ongoing crimes and violations against Palestinian children, especially in the Gaza Strip.

“This year’s Palestinian Child’s Day comes amid unprecedented crimes and violations against Palestinian children. Since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on October 7, 2023, Israel has killed around 200 children in the West Bank, not to mention the crimes committed against children being held in Israeli detention centers,” Ayed Abu Eqtaish, director of the DCI accountability program, said in a statement on Saturday.

“These Israeli violations have affected all children’s rights enshrined in international conventions, particularly the [UN] Convention on the Rights of the Child, which should provide care and protection for children living in conflict zones or under military occupation,” Abu Eqtaish added.

“In Gaza, there is no single right left for children without being stripped away, whether it is the right to life, education, health, or others,” the DCI official underscored.

“These Israeli crimes are happening in full view of the entire world without the slightest intervention to provide the victims with protection. Israel’s criminal machine has rendered international laws a dead letter,” he said.
