13 Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike

Sunday 8-August-2021

The Palestinian Prisoners Club confirmed on Sunday that 13 prisoners are continuing their open hunger strike in the Israeli prisons. Salem Zaidat from Bani Naim town in al-Khalil is the first one to go on hunger strike and has been on strike for 28 days.

The club said in a press statement that the two prisoners Muhammad Abu Sale and Ahmed Abu Sal from al-Aroub refugee camp suspended their hunger strike after they reached an agreement to set a period of their administrative detention.

The hunger strikers face difficult health conditions that worsen over time due to the refusal of the occupation authorities to respond to their demand which is to end their administrative detention.

The club called for necessarily supporting the prisoners on hunger strike by all available means and called on all international human rights bodies to put pressure on the occupation in order to stop the policy of systematic administrative detention and end the occupation’s abusive measures against the prisoners.

Meanwhile Israeli prison forces stormed section N.2 of the Negev Desert Prison assaulted the prisoners and tampered with their personal belongings as stated by the Palestinian Commission for Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs.

The commission confirmed in a press statement that this attack comes in continuation of the policy of abuse and revenge against prisoners and an attempt to impose a fait accompli policy inside prisons and detention centers.
