15 Palestinian prisoners were infected with the coronavirus in Ramon prison on Wednesday. This brings the total number of infections in Ramon since 11/01/2021 to 53 while the total number of Palestinian prisoners infected with coronavirus in the Israeli occupation jails since the outbreak of the pandemic reached 265.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club said that the new coronavirus infections were recorded in two new sections 2 and 6 after the early infections were confined to the three sections 1 3 and 4. The number of sections in which the coronavirus infections were spread is five out of seven sections in which more than 650 prisoners are being held.
The club explained that the infections appeared after conducting random examinations in all sections of the prison.
Furthermore the Ramon administration informed the prisoners that there will be no vaccination today as was previously scheduled according to the club.
Meanwhile another prisoner was infected with COVID-19 in the Negev prison. Fathi al-Najjar 53 from al-Khalil was declared infected with the virus on Tuesday. He is held in section 10 of the Negev desert prison where several infections were recorded recently.
Najjar has been detained since 2002 and has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. He suffers from several health problems due to the difficult detention conditions. He underwent several surgeries.
The club stated that the administration of the Negev prison took Najjar to an unknown lock up.
