Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas said that officials from Fatah and Hamas would hold a meeting next week in Cairo to discuss the mechanisms for enabling the government to exercise its responsibilities smoothly in the Gaza Strip.
“The Cairo meeting will also discuss the next steps to be taken to end the division and unify the one nation and we are going there with great determination to have successful talks and achieve concrete steps in this regard” Abbas stated on Thursday during Fatah’s revolutionary council meeting in Ramallah.
He reiterated his appreciation for the Egyptian efforts to end the Palestinian division and stressed that the steps that were taken by Hamas in this regard were the right way to restore the national unity as a prelude to establishing the independent Palestinian state.
