Palestinian Authority (PA) chief Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to meet with US president Donald Trump on Wednesday after his arrival in Washington D.C. yesterday.
According to WAFA news agency Abbas and Trump will explore avenues of restarting the peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis and the role the US administration could play in this regard.
A delegation of top PA officials has accompanied Abbas. It includes chief negotiator Saeb Erekat deputy premier Ziyad Abu Amro and director of the general intelligence agency Majed Faraj.
Abbas’s spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh described the intended meeting as “important” and “a real opportunity to establish peace.”
In this regard the Hamas Movement has denounced Abbas for wagering on his meeting with the US president to achieve something for the Palestinian people and their national cause describing his bid for peace as “a losing bet a waste of time and illusion marketing.”
Hamas also warned of getting along with projects or plans aimed at undermining the Palestinian people’s rights and liquidating their national cause.
