Abu Hamid rejects submitting petition for pardon

Tuesday 13-September-2022

Cancer-stricken Palestinian prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid has rejected dealing with a proposal suggested by his lawyer to submit a petition for pardon to the President of Israel to release him.

“This proposal came after all available legal procedures to release prisoner Abu Hamid were exhausted” head of the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) Qaddoura Faris said in his speech at the weekly sit-in held on Tuesday at the office of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the West Bank city of Al-Bireh.

Faris added that the Israeli prison administration rejected the medical recommendation recently stated by the Israeli hospital Assaf Harofeh to release Abu Hamid to get the care he needs.

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs had warned that Abu Hamid may die at any moment.

Earlier on Thursday the PPS said that prisoner Abu Hamid is fighting for his life in Israeli detention due to his worsening health condition.

Since August 2021 Abu Hamid’s health has been severely deteriorating. He was later diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his lungs.

49-year-old Nasser Abu Hamid from the Al-Amari camp refugee camp in Ramallah who has been detained since 2002 is serving seven life imprisonment sentences and 50 years.
