Jerusalem’s Islamic Awqaf and Religious Affairs Council on Tuesday announced that al-Aqsa Mosque will reopen to Muslim worshipers after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
The council said in a statement that further details regarding the exact mechanisms and measures to be followed will be provided in another statement later.
Al-Aqsa Mosque has been shut down since late March as part of protective measures in the Palestinian territories to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Islamic Awqaf Council said in Tuesday’s statement that it decided to “lift the suspension on Muslim worshipers entering al-Aqsa Mosque after Eid al-Fitr holiday” given the noticeable decline in the number of COVID-19 cases.
