The Ramallah-based Palestinian government on Tuesday decided that 6145 workers from Gaza be handed over early-retirement orders against their will.
The government spokesperson Youssef al-Mahmoud said the move is temporary and depends on Hamas efforts to heal the national rift.
Al-Mahmoud added that the only means to end the division episode is to implement Mahmoud Abbas’s vision dissolve the so-called administrative committee enable the incumbent government to rule in Gaza and prepare for national elections.
Al-Mahmoud claimed the government will backtrack on the decision only if Hamas eats humble pie and works on boosting national reconciliation.
