Alarm sounded over mistreatment of Palestinian women in Israeli jails

Monday 5-November-2018

Dozens of Palestinians joined on Sunday evening a march held in the central occupied West Bank province of Ramallah in solidarity with Palestinian women and girls locked up in Israeli jails.

Young men and young women lifted banners and chanted slogans calling for releasing female detainees held behind Israeli prison bars.

The marchers called for urgent action by the concerned authorities and human rights institutions regarding the dire conditions of captivity and systematic abuses endured by Palestinian female detainees in Israeli lock-ups.

The names of jailed women and girls who have been refusing to go out to the prison yard due to the surveillance cameras installed by the Israeli prison authorities also figure on posters raised during the march.

Palestinian female detainees have been subjected to psycho-physical torture and systematically denied their basic rights most notably the right to medical treatment.
