Alarms sounded over deterioration of detained cancer patient’s health

Tuesday 14-April-2015

RAMALLAH (PIC)– The detainees and ex-detainees committee on Tuesday raised alarm bells over the sharp exacerbation in the health status of prisoner Yosri al-Masri diagnosed with cancer and transferred a couple of days ago from the Nafha jail to the Ramla prison clinic.

The committee said in a statement the 32-year-old detainee Yosri al-Masri suffers from cancer gastrointestinal hemorrhage swollen lymph nodes weight loss and a severe headache.

The Israeli prison service (IPS) at the Nafha lock-up transferred the detainee some two days ago to the Ramla prison clinic after his health status had remarkably gone down.

The committee held the IPS responsible for the life of the prisoner patient calling on the international human rights institutions namely the Red Cross to urgently step in and save the lives of Palestinian sick detainees inside of Israeli jails before it is too late.

Prisoner al-Masri born in 1982 in Gaza’s Deir al-Balah was arrested on June 9 2003 and is currently serving a 20-year prison-term at the Israeli Nafha jail where he has reportedly been subjected to mistreatment and premeditated medical neglect.
