Amnesty calls for Mohamed al-Qeiq’s immediate release

Thursday 23-February-2017

Amnesty International called Thursday on Israeli authorities to end the Palestinian Journalist Mohamed al-Qeiq’s administrative detention as he enters the 18th day of his hunger strike.

The international group urged the Israeli authorities to release Mohamed al-Qeiq and “all others who have been placed under administrative detention unless they are promptly charged with an internationally recognizable crime in proceedings that adhere to international fair trial standards.”

The rights group also called to ensure that pending his release he is immediately transferred to a civilian hospital and receives the specialized medical treatment he requires and is not subject to punitive measures as a result of his decision to go on strike.

The Palestinian journalist who has been on hunger strike since 6 February in protest against his administrative detention was transferred on Wednesday to Ramla prison clinic after his health condition worsened.
