Anti-siege group says Gaza needs int’l quartet

Sunday 16-October-2016

The Popular Committee against the Siege has called on the UN to form an international quartet commissioned to oblige the donor countries to fulfill the financial pledges they had made for the reconstruction of Gaza during the 2014 conference in Cairo.
Head of the committee MP Jamal al-Khudari told a news conference held in Gaza City on Sunday that this quartet would also be delegated to make efforts to end the blockade imposed on the population in the impoverished enclave.
Khudari condemned Israel’s blockade on Gaza as “unjustified mass punishment against the population” calling for establishing a sea corridor under European control connecting Gaza with the world and ending its isolation.
An international donor conference on Gaza reconstruction was organized in Cairo in October 2014 in order to respond to the dire needs of the Palestinian people in the aftermath of Israel’s military aggression.
At the time the participants in the conference pledged to grant 5.4 billion dollars to help rebuild post-war Gaza.
