The lawyer of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Kareem Ajwa on Sunday said that the Palestinian prisoner Samer Ayyat suffers from many severe health conditions in the Israeli Ashkelon prison.
Lawyer Ajwa confirmed in a press statement that prisoner Ayyat suffers from back and bone pain in addition to hypertension high cholesterol and dental problems. He also suffers from the procrastination by the administration of prison in providing the appropriate medical care.
“Ayyat has waited for long after he was allowed to get an injection in his leg and he is supposed to take another injection after one week” Ajwa underlined quoting Ayyat as saying that the one week might be extended to one month due to the medical negligence policy.
According to Ajwa prisoner Ayyat demands to be transferred to another detention center due to the bad conditions in Ashkelon prison which lack the elements of basic hygiene.
For its part the Ministry of Prisoners’ Affairs and ex-prisoners on the occasion of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture pointed out that Israel brutally tortures Palestinian detainees during their arrest and in the interrogation centers to forcibly extract confessions from them.
The Ministry underlined that more than 100 ways of torture are used against Palestinian prisoners which resulted in the killing of more than 75 Palestinian prisoners calling for exposing Israeli crimes that violate Palestinian prisoners’ rights.
Ayyat from Tulkarem is serving a life imprisonment sentence and has been detained since 2003.
