Badran: Hamas delegation to head to Cairo today

Monday 9-October-2017

Hussam Badran a member of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas said that the Movement’s delegation to the reconciliation meetings will leave on Monday to the Egyptian capital Cairo in preparation for a meeting with the delegation of Fatah sponsored by Egypt on Tuesday.

Badran said in an interview with Hayat FM local radio station in Nablus that the delegation will start arriving in Cairo on Monday from different countries in preparation for the meeting with the Fatah delegation and the Egyptian officials on Tuesday.

In response to a question about the nature of the issues Hamas will discuss in this meeting Badran said: “The Cairo meetings are based on the Cairo 2011 agreement signed by all Palestinian factions which includes all issues and the mechanisms put in place to implement what was agreed upon previously.”

Badran stressed that Hamas will show high flexibility when it comes to the Movement’s issues and will show high adherence to national and legal issues affecting the ordinary citizens such as the right to political action and legitimate resistance.

Badran emphasized that the resistance’s weapon is not subject for discussion.

On the comprehensiveness of the Cairo talks Badran stressed that reconciliation and its implementation will not be confined to one geographical place. The West Bank and Gaza are strongly present and as is the case with Gaza employees there are employees in the West Bank who have been dismissed from their posts.

Badran explained that the freedom of political action and the issue of closed institutions resulting from the division in the West Bank have been present in the discussions although this is not covered by the media but it will be an issue of discussion.

Speaking whether there is a delegation representing the Movement from the West Bank in the Cairo meetings Badran said that Hamas raised this issue with Egypt without confirming whether there is a delegation that will actually participate pointing out at the same time that the Hamas delegation will include the deputy chairman of the Movement Sheikh Saleh Al-Arouri Badran himself both from the West Bank.

Cairo called on the Fatah and Hamas delegations to participate in talks to be held on Tuesday to discuss the mechanisms of implementation of the Cairo agreement 2011 and to solve the unresolved issues in preparation for the full implementation of the reconciliation agreement.
