Representative of Hamas in Lebanon Ali Baraka met on Monday with Turkish ambassador Cagatay Erciyes at the headquarters of the embassy in Beirut.
The meeting was also attended by director of Hamas’s political relations Ziyad Hasan.
The two sides discussed the humanitarian conditions of the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and the latest developments in the Palestinian arena especially with regard to the reconciliation efforts.
Baraka briefed the Turkish ambassador on his Movement’s recent efforts to achieve the national reconciliation and its decision in Cairo to dissolve the administrative committee in order to enable the Ramallah-based government to assume its responsibilities in Gaza.
He stressed the importance of strengthening the Palestinian national unity and holding a comprehensive meeting for all Palestinian factions in Cairo in order to agree on the formation of a national unity government and the mechanisms for the implementation of the 2011 Cairo agreement.
The Hamas official conveyed his Movement’s appreciation to Turkey for its strong support for the Palestinian people and their national cause.
Baraka called for necessarily alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian refugees and supporting their steadfastness in the face of plans to find alternative homelands for them.
For his part the Turkish ambassador hailed Hamas for its initiative in Cairo and its decision to disband the administrative committee and enable the government to assume its duties fully in Gaza.
