Barghouti’s wife: Fatah internal elections stage-managed by Israel

Friday 17-February-2017

The wife of the imprisoned Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti leveled heavy criticism at the group’s Central Committee for turning their back on her husband.

Fadwa al-Barghouti called on Fatah Movement to seriously restructure its home affairs in response to the group’s appointment of Mahmoud al-Aloul as the vice president of the incumbent Fatah leader Abbas sidelining Palestinian anti-occupation icon Marwan al-Barghouti.

“At a time when Hamas is considering electing an ex-prisoner—Yahya al-Sinwar—to chair the group in Gaza . . . the Central Committee insists that Marwan is ‘absent’” said Mrs. Barghouti.

She dubbed the appointments signs of obedience to Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu’s threats.

“Marwan is ready to sacrifice his life and soul for national unity dignity freedom and return” she added.

On Wednesday Fatah Central Committee tasked several leaders with major responsibilities and posts within the movement while Marwan al-Barghouti was allotted none.

Last year Barghouti garnered the majority of votes in the 7th Conference held on November 29.
