Barhoum: Hamas gearing up to resume Cairo-brokered talks

Sunday 19-November-2017

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum on Sunday revealed the lineup of the Hamas delegation that will attend the projected round of reconciliation talks in Cairo.

The senior delegation led by deputy political chief of Hamas Saleh Arouri also includes Yehya Sinwar Khalil al-Hayya Husam Badran and Salah al-Bardawil.

Barhoum said the list of files to be discussed in the negotiations round comprises the Palestine Liberation Organization the general elections security issues inter-communal reconciliation public freedoms and the consensus government makeup.

Barhoum also said the presence of the security file on the talk table comes in recognition of the sensitivity of the issue in light of the division of power between Fatah and Hamas regarding the management of the Ministry of the Interior and also due to disagreements regarding the disarmament of the Palestinian resistance.

Other disparities between the two parties emerge from disagreements over the Palestinian National Council the Palestinian Legislative Council and the opening/closure of the Rafah border-crossing.

Hamas stressed the need for all political factions to combine forces as so enable the Palestinians to reap the fruits of the reconciliation talks and boost national unity in the face of the Israeli occupation.

A reconciliation agreement struck between Fatah and Hamas in Cairo on October 12 2017 signaled the launch of the Palestinian Authority’s mission in the blockaded Gaza Strip and the takeover of key files in the enclave most notably border crossings.
