Battran halts hunger strike after date set for his release

Thursday 8-April-2021

Palestinian prisoner Emad al-Battran from al-Khalil on Wednesday evening suspended his hunger strike which lasted 47 days following an Israeli pledge to set a time limit for his administrative detention.

According to the Palestinian Prisoner Society prisoner Battran received a pledge from his jailers to release him next July.

As a result of his prolonged hunger strike Battran has suffered from severe emaciation and weakness as well as from widespread physical pains and skin inflammation.

Battran started his hunger strike in Megiddo jail before transferring him to Ramla (Ayalon) jail then to a hospital and recently to an isolation cell in Nitzan jail.

Battran had been arrested and jailed more than once and spent 10 years in Israeli prisons mostly in administrative detention. In 2013 he went on open-ended hunger strike for 105 days to protest administrative detention and later in 2016 for a period of 35 days.
