Calls for sending EU committee to follow up the hunger strike

Thursday 11-May-2017

Hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails entered day 25 of their open-ended hunger strike on Thursday despite their suffering from ongoing health deterioration.

The Arab MK of Israeli Knesset Ahmad al-Tibi called on the European Union to send a committee in order to investigate the Israeli violations against Palestinian prisoners calling them war crimes.

Tibi asked the EU to oblige Israeli authorities to halt its violations of the international humanitarian law on the protection of civilians under occupation.

Tibi’s statement came in his speech before members of the Socialist Party in the European Parliament.

The national committee for supporting the hunger strike announced Thursday as a day of anger and support for the hunger strikers. Hamas Movement in the West Bank called on Palestinians to participate in the solidarity events scheduled on Thursday.

The International Committee of the Red Cross said that its representatives will be visiting the hunger striking detainee Marwan al-Barghouti after Israeli Prison Service had banned lawyers and international committees from visiting him.
