Cancer-stricken prisoner Abu Hamid falls into deep coma

The Ministry of Prisoners’ and Ex-Prisoners Affairs said that the cancer-stricken Palestinian prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid had fallen into a deep coma on Sunday evening.

In a brief statement the ministry said that prisoner Abu Hamid fell into a deep coma which constituted the most dangerous phase of his illness.

For its part the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs stressed that the health condition of prisoner Abu Hamid severely deteriorated as he has been taking painkillers in larger doses.

“Prisoner Abu Hamid suffers from breathing difficulties and was kept under artificial respiration” lawyer Karim Ajwa told the commission after visiting him at Ramleh prison clinic adding that Abu Hamid couldn’t speak or recognize him.

The commission held Israel responsible for the life of Abu Hamid calling on all the international human rights organizations to work towards releasing him.

49-year-old Nasser Abu Hamid from the Al-Amari camp refugee camp who has been detained since 2002 is serving seven life imprisonment sentences and 50 years.
