The Israeli prison service (IPS) last night transferred cancer-stricken prisoner Muwafaq Arrouq 77 from Ashkelon jail to Barzilai Hospital after a sharp decline in his health condition.
Prisoner Arrouq from the 1948 occupied lands was diagnosed with cancer last July but the IPS kept procrastinating over transferring him to hospital to receive chemotherapy for several months which led his health condition to get worse according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society.
Israeli jailers had also detained him for about one month under harsh incarceration conditions along with other prisoners who have health problems as part of the mass punitive measures that had been taken against Ashkelon prisoners last October.
Arrouq has been in detention since 2003 serving a 30-year jail term.
