Clashes in Nablus after soldiers and settlers storm eastern area

Violent clashes broke out on Monday night between Palestinian young men and Israeli soldiers in the eastern area of Nablus city before hundreds of Jewish settlers flocked to the area to perform rituals at Joseph’s Tomb.

Local sources said that dozens of young men blocked roads in the eastern area with rocks and burning tires and confronted Israeli soldiers and their patrol vehicles by throwing stones and Molotov cocktails at them.

They added that the skirmishes escalated after more Israel troops aboard military vehicles including a bulldozer stormed the eastern area of Nablus and spread through its streets in order to provide protection for buses and cars carrying hundreds of settlers.

Eyewitnesses said that hundreds of settlers aboard buses and cars gathered at first at the Beit Furik checkpoint in the east of the city before heading for the area where Joseph’s Tomb is located after the bulldozer and troops cleared the way for them.

They added that the settlers were dancing singing and screaming loudly and hysterically at Joseph’s Tomb for long hours causing a disturbance to local residents.

During the events the Israeli forces opened fire at the youths and showered them with tear gas grenades but there was no information about casualties.

Violent clashes broke out last night between Palestinian young men and Israeli soldiers in the eastern area of Nablus city before hundreds of Jewish settlers flocked after midnight to the area to perform rituals at Joseph’s Tomb.

The skirmishes which continued into the dawn of Thursday started after Israel troops aboard military vehicles stormed the eastern area of Nablus and spread through its streets in order to provide protection for buses and cars carrying hundreds of settlers.

Local sources said that dozens of young men blocked roads in the eastern area with rocks and burning tires and confronted Israeli soldiers and their patrol vehicles by throwing stones and Molotov cocktails at them.

They added that the settlers were dancing singing and screaming loudly and hysterically at Joseph’s Tomb for long hours causing a disturbance to local residents.

Many local youths in the streets and citizens inside their homes suffered injuries as Israeli forces intensively used tear gas and rubber bullets during the events.

The Red Crescent said its ambulances were blocked by soldiers from reaching the wounded citizens.

In a separate incident Israeli forces stole a large sum of money during a raid on a currency exchange store in al-Khalil City.

Local sources said that Israeli soldiers stormed an exchange store in as-Salam street in al-Khalil City and confiscated different currencies amounting to over $300000 in addition to documents and financial bonds.
