Wednesday 26-December-2018

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs on Tuesday filed a legal request asking the urgent release of Palestinian prisoner Sami Abu Diyak a cancer patient from an Israeli jail due to the deterioration of his health condition.

According to a statement released by the Commission prisoner Abu Diyak from Silat ad-Dhahr town in Jenin was recently transferred to Assaf Harofeh Hospital after he suffered health complications.

Abu Diyak suffers from intestinal cancer and underwent surgery in September 2015 before he was transferred to the infirmary of Ramla jail where he was exposed to poisoning and contamination because the facility lacked cleanliness in general.

Later the prisoner was transferred to Assaf Harofeh Hospital and then again to Ramla infirmary.

The Commission held the Israeli prison service fully responsible for the life of Abu Diyak and appealed to international human rights groups and the Red Cross to visit the prisoner immediately and pressure the Israeli side to release him in order for him to have access to appropriate medical treatment.
