Courses launched in al-Khalil to maintain cultural heritage

In cooperation with al-Ta’aoun Foundation Al-Khalil Rehabilitation Committee launched on Thursday a program of specialized courses in the fields of restoration and heritage management.

This program comes in conjunction with a frenzied campaign launched against the Old City of al-Khalil by the Israeli settlers and authorities targeting the Palestinian citizens and their properties as well as the Palestinian archeological sites.

The program aims to develop technical expertise in the fields of restoration preservation of the architectural and historic heritage and archeological sites management based on scientific documentation methodologies and the basics of architectural preservation.

The course started on Thursday in the Old City in the presence of 23 participants of various disciplines including architects engineers archeologists and restoration workers.

The director general of al-Khalil Rehabilitation Committee engineer Emad Hamdan pointed to the important role the heritage preservation institutions play in preserving the cultural heritage and maintaining the historical cities.

Hamdan affirmed that al-Khalil Rehabilitation Committee has managed since its inception in 1996 to protect the Old City against Judaization and Israeli attacks.

The Committee has conducted many restoration and rehabilitation works for old houses in the Old City which contributed in returning about 7000 Palestinian citizens to live in the city. Such efforts led the Committee to win three awards in the past years.
