Scores of Israeli settlers on Sunday forced their way into al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem under police escort.
Local sources said that 87 Jewish settlers including 30 students from religious institutes broke into al-Aqsa Mosque in the early morning while accompanied by a large police force.
They reported that as the settlers stormed the eastern side of the Mosque Israeli police forced Muslim worshipers out of the site.
On Saturday evening a group of Israeli settlers rallied at Bab al-Asbat one of al-Aqsa Mosque’s gates.
Armed forces accompanied the settlers and provided protection to them as they perofmed Talmudic rituals and performed provocative dances.
Recently police-backed settler raids on al-Aqsa Mosque have been on the rise amid warnings that a complete takeover of the eastern area of the site is being planned.
