An Egyptian security delegation in Gaza had to end its meetings with Hamas officials and leave immediately after Israeli warplanes launched a wave of aerial attacks on the coastal enclave.
A delegation from the Egyptian intelligence directorate arrived in Gaza on Thursday afternoon through the Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing.
Local sources had said that the delegation visited Gaza to complete its talks with Hamas leaders and major factions over a long-term truce with Israel.
Last Monday member of Hamas’s political bureau Suhail al-Hindi said that his Movement were waiting for an Israeli reply to the conditions for halting border protests which the Egyptian delegation would convey to Tel Aviv during the coming days.
For several months Egyptian security officials have made repeated visits to Gaza the West Bank and Israel where they met with the concerned parties to reach agreements over the situation in Gaza and the Palestinian reconciliation.
