Turkish president Recep Erdogan has reiterated his rejection of US president Donald Trump’s peace plan saying it destroys Palestine and entirely seizes Jerusalem which he described as a “red line.”
“If we fail to protect the special status of the Aqsa Mosque today we will not be able to prevent evil eyes from turning to Kaaba tomorrow” Erdogan added referring to the holy square shrine located at the center of the Great Mosque in Mecca.
Addressing his party members in Ankara on Friday the Turkish president warned that “leaving the fate of Jerusalem to Israel’s bloodstained claws will be the greatest harm for all humanity.”
The president also blasted some Arab countries for backing Trump’s plan condemning their position as “treason.”
“Some Arab countries that support such a plan commit treason against Jerusalem as well as against their own people and more importantly against all humanity” he said.
“The same goes to Oman Bahrain and the Abu Dhabi leadership” he underlined the Gulf countries that recently attended the White House gathering where the plan was announced.
If the Palestinian Authority leadership accepts the peace plan Trump unveiled on Tuesday a Palestinian state will be under complete Israeli military control.
The plan allows Israel to immediately annex all its settlements in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem which are illegal under international law and gives it the green light to Judaize Jerusalem and control the Aqsa Mosque and all the holy sites in the city which are currently under Jordan’s Hashemite custodianship.
