Erdogan: US peace plan is a threat to regional peace

Saturday 8-February-2020

Turkish president Recep Erdogan reiterated his rejection of the US administration’s peace plan describing it as a threat to regional peace and vowing to frustrate it.

In a speech read on his behalf at the 3rd Annual Conference of the League of Parliamentarians For al-Quds held on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur Erdogan said the so-called deal of the century is nothing but a “dream” that threatens peace in the region.

“We will not let this dream come true. We do not recognize this plan which means annexing Palestinian territories completely destroying Palestine and completely usurping al-Quds.”

“We do not recognize this initiative that pretends to accept a two-state solution but on the ground it confers legitimacy on the Israeli occupation” Erdogan added.

“While Palestine has been exposed to destruction and suffering for years Israel has unfairly and illegally reached its current borders. It is impossible for Turkey to remain silent on the annexation of al-Quds and leave our Palestinian brothers alone in this struggle. I want to emphasize once again that al-Quds is our red line.”

“As Muslim countries our most important responsibility at this point is to protect the special status of Masjid al-Aqsa protect al-Quds as a landmark of peace and defend the Palestinians’ rights.”

Erdogan also lashed out at certain Arab-Muslim regimes for adopting positions against the Palestinian rights.

“It is unacceptable that some Muslim countries adopt a supportive attitude towards this colonial plan with no regard for the unfairness and cruelty exhibited by the Israeli administration. It should not be forgotten that al-Quds is not only the cause of Muslims in Palestine but it is also the dignity and common cause of the Islamic world.”
