Ex-detainee calls for internationalizing issue of Palestinian inmates

Monday 9-May-2022

A Palestinian ex-detainee has called for necessarily working on internationalizing the issue of the Palestinian prisoners and highlighting their suffering in Israeli prisons.

Rami Hijazi an ex-detainee from Gaza who was released last April after 20 years in jail stressed the need for Palestinian embassies and consulates around the world to move to internationalize the issue of the Palestinian prisoners and expose Israel’s crimes against them.

In press remarks he made recently Hijazi affirmed that the Palestinian prisoners especially the women children patients and elderlies suffer greatly in Israeli jails calling for more local and international solidarity with them.

He pointed to the exposure of Palestinian prisoners to obvious medical neglect in Israeli jails and accused the Israeli prison service (IPS) of testing different types of medicines and drugs on them.

He also noted that the number of patients who suffer from cancer in Israeli prisons increased lately.

In a related context the Palestinian Prisoner Society said on Sunday that the IPS transferred cancer-stricken prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid to Assaf Harofeh Hospital once again after he suffered from serious disorders in his immune system.

Abu Hamid has been battling death for long months as a result of his suffering from the consequences of a surgery he underwent in October 2021 to remove a cancerous tumor in his lung when Israeli jailers took him back to the prison before he recovered.

Abu Hamid a 49-year-old from al-Am’ari refugee camp in Ramallah has been in detention since 2002 serving seven life terms and an additional 50 years in prison. He has four brothers in jail who are also serving life sentences.
