Factions: No justification for maintaining sanctions on Gaza

Friday 17-November-2017

The Palestinian factions in Gaza on Friday asked the Palestinian Authority (PA) president Mahmoud Abbas to lift the sanctions imposed on Gaza saying they are no longer justifiable.

This was voiced during a consultative meeting in Gaza city on Friday where the Palestinian factions affirmed that conditions have become favorable at the local international and regional levels to achieve Palestinian reconciliation.

The Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya said that the US and Israeli opposition to the reconciliation should push the Palestinian factions forward toward completing it.

Hayya added that a real reconciliation must be enjoyed by Palestinians in both the West Bank and Gaza and must be based on real partnership with no-one excluded.

Fatah’s spokesman Fayez Abu Atiya confirmed his Movement’s adherence to the reconciliation agreements signed in Cairo in 2011 and 2017 expressing his hope that the upcoming Cairo meeting will lead to ending the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza.

The leader from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Jameel Mezher said that the agreement signed in October which was followed by practical steps that included handing over government institutions and borders to the PA government constitutes an important step in the reconciliation process.

Mezher called for working to remove all obstacles and cancel the sanctions imposed on Gaza.

Talal Abu Zarifa the leader from the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine stressed that the unjustified punitive measures waged against Gaza must be lifted immediately without being linked to any condition.
