Five Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails continued their hunger strike for different periods of time in protest of the Israeli policy of administrative detention according to a Palestinian group on Friday.
They are Kayed al-Fasfous Alaa al-Araj Hisham Abu Hawash Ayyad al-Harimi and Louay al-Ashqar.
The Palestinian Authority for Detainees and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs said in a statement that the five hunger striking prisoners are in real danger especially the longest striking prisoner Kayed al-Fasfous who began his hunger strike 121 days ago.
The Palestinian rights group said that Alaa al-Araj’s administrative detention was extended for nine more days while Hisham Abu Hawash’s administrative detention was decreased from six to four months
Earlier Thursday Palestinian prisoner Miqdad al-Qawasmeh ended his hunger strike after reaching a deal with Israeli authorities to set a date for his release.
Israel’s widely condemned policy of administrative detention allows the Israeli military to hold Palestinians in prisons indefinitely without charge or trial in violation to international laws.
Last month UN experts expressed grave fear for the lives of the hunger strikers and called on Israel to either release or charge the prisoners and to completely end its unlawful practice of administrative detention.
