Israeli occupation authorities on Monday announced that three Israeli jailers have been diagnosed with the coronavirus disease sparking fears of potential outbreak among Palestinians detained in Israeli jails.
Palestinian Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said in a statement that three Israeli jailers working in Ofer and Nitzan prisons have tested positive for coronavirus.
The commission warned of a “potential disaster” threatening the lives of over 5000 Palestinians held in 23 Israeli prisons and detention centers including 180 children 41 women and 700 prisoners already suffering from health problems.
The commission fears that a large number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails could become infected with coronavirus in the absence of the necessary health care and preventive measures.
It called on concerned international organizations especially the Red Cross to pressure the Israeli authorities to take the necessary protective measures and conduct tests for Palestinian detainees to ensure their safety.
It also called for the immediate release of the most vulnerable detainees particularly children women and sick and elderly prisoners.
