The Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs Authority reported that the prisoner Anas Mishaal, 37, from the village of Kober near Ramallah has suffered from memory loss for over a week as a result of severe torture in Israeli occupation prisons.

The Prisoners’ Affairs Authority explained in a statement on Monday that prisoner Mishaal has been subjected to brutal beatings since the moment of his arrest until his arrival at Ofer prison. The series of torture continued during his detention, according to the lawyer of the authority who was able to visit him recently.

Regarding the details of the assault, the prisoner said that the Israeli forces transferred him to Ofer prison after his arrest, and they put him in the prison yard where they brutally beat him all over his body. Then they took him to the Etzion prison, where he stayed for two days and was subjected to further assaults before being returned to Ofer again.

The lawyer also quoted the prisoner as saying that the so-called Metzada forces stormed the section where he was on November 8th of last year and assaulted all the prisoners in the section, numbering 32 prisoners, and fired rubber bullets at them. All those in the section, including the prisoner Mishaal, were injured by rubber bullets in the foot.

The prisoner added that the prison units then took custody of the prisoners and tied their hands behind their backs, then they put them in the yard and subjected them to brutal beatings.

The prisoner confirmed that he was severely beaten on the head, and the guards stepped on his head with their shoes, causing him to lose consciousness for more than half an hour, and then he completely lost his memory for over a week.

The lawyer of the authority indicated that the prisoner started to regain his memory after a week of the assault, but slowly. He only remembers a few people, such as his parents, his wife, and his children. He also does not remember events or his place of residence.

The prisoner Mishaal, who is married and has two children, was arrested on October 26th of last year. A six-month administrative detention order was issued against him, which ends on April 24th of this year. He is a former prisoner who spent 12 and a half years in Israeli occupation prisons.
