Five young protesters injured by Israeli gunfire in Gaza night protest

Thursday 7-March-2019

Five Palestinian young protesters suffered bullet injured on Wednesday when Israeli soldiers attacked a night anti-siege rally staged east of the Gaza border.

A reporter for the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) said that Israeli soldiers behind the security fence east of al-Shuja’iyya neighborhood in Gaza intensively fired live ammunition and tear gas grenades at youths participating in a night protest.

He added that five of the protesters were injured one of them seriously.

A spokesman for the health ministry affirmed that one of the five wounded protesters suffered a serious bullet injury in the head and was admitted to the intensive care unit at al-Shifa Hospital.

Dozens of Gazan young men marched to the March of Return camp in Malaka area in the east of al-Shuja’iyya neighborhood where they torched tires used loudspeakers to play national songs and sirens and flashed laser beams at soldiers behind the border fence.

Organizers say such night rallies are aimed at creating confusion among Israeli forces on the border and pressuring Israel to lift its blockade on Gaza.

The night protests are part of a resurgence in border demonstrations following a brief lull after Egypt Qatar and UN officials have failed to broker a long-term truce between Hamas and Israel.
