Gaza: Citizens rally to mark Nakba protest Gaza siege

Sunday 14-May-2017

Thousands of Palestinian citizens on Saturday evening participated in a massive march staged in Gaza City to commemorate the 69th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe) and denounce the ongoing blockade on the Gaza Strip.

The participants marched from the eastern mosques of Gaza City and rallied in the central district carrying Hamas flags and placards condemning the blockade on Gaza and supporting the hunger-striking prisoners in Israeli jails.

During the event a spokesman for the Hamas Movement stated in a speech that the passage of 69 years since the Palestinian Nakba in 1948 would never make the Palestinian people forget their right to their land.

The spokesman said that the punitive measures that were taken by Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas against the Gaza Strip would not be able to dissuade its population from upholding their national rights and constants.

“What the three wars and years of siege on the Gaza Strip failed to achieve you cannot achieve through tightening the blockade and severing salaries and electricity” the spokesman added addressing Abbas.

He also conveyed his Movement’s solidarity with the hunger strikers in Israeli jails reiterating its vow to extract their freedom soon.
