Gaza: Massive protests against Abbas and his government

Massive vigils and marches were staged on Friday night in different areas of the Gaza Strip in protest at the measures that were taken recently by Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas and his government against the population in the impoverished enclave.

The protest rallies were organized by the National Anti-Siege and Reconstruction Movement Commission and the Hamas Movement and took place in Jabalia refugee camp al-Shuja’iyya neighborhood Khan Younis City the northern and central districts of Gaza Gaza City and Rafah.

Thousands of citizens participated in the protests carrying placards and pictures of Abbas and premier Rami al-Hamdallah that denounced their involvement in the blockade on their own people in Gaza.

During one of those protests senior Hamas official Isam al-Da’alis told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that the Palestinian citizens took to the streets in thousands to condemn Abbas for depriving them of electricity medical care and salaries.

The Hamas Movement on Friday evening organized angry protests and rallies in different areas of the Gaza Strip to denounce Palestinian Authority (PA) president Mahmoud Abbas for threatening to stifle Gaza and plunge it into problems.

During the protests several participants carried candles in a message to Abbas and his government that Gaza would never yield to their extortions and threats.

In the Gaza province scores of citizens rallied at al-Saraya junction al-Zeitoun neighborhood near Salahuddin Mosque Jabalia parking lot Talat al-Mintar area al-Sanafur juntion al-Taqwa juntion and al-Eiyun junction.

In northern Gaza citizens rallied near Salim Abu Muslim Mosque in Beit Lahia where Palestinian lawmaker and Hamas official Mushir al-Masri accused the PA leadership of being an accomplice in the blockade on Gaza.

In his speech before the crowds Masri stressed that “the Hamas Movement would never recognize the Israeli occupation despite all conspiracies against Gaza and the measures taken to tighten the siege on its population.”

In the central province hundreds also took to the streets in al-Nuseirat Bureij Maghazi Zouaydah and Deir al-Balah protesting the PA’s involvement in Gaza crises especially the electricity problem.

Similar protests took place in Rafah Khan Younis Nuseirat refugee camp where angry citizens burned pictures of Abbas and his premier Rami al-Hamdallah as well as of Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu and his war minister Avigdor Lieberman.

More massive protests and marches will be organized in different areas of Gaza in the coming days to condemn Abbas’s policies towards the besieged enclave according to Hamas.
