Gaza celebrates wheat harvest season

As soon as wheat spikes and seeds begin to turn golden Palestinian farmers along with families head for their fields which are located along the Gaza border to work on a long-awaited harvest.

In early May and late spring wheat crops ripen and become ready for harvesting in Gaza. Wheat is an indispensable strategic crop and staple diet in Palestine.

In the Palestinian heritage the wheat harvest season is characterized by an atmosphere of celebration joy and singing. Often stimulating folk and national songs are recited by farmers during the gathering and processing of wheat in the fields.

In Gaza the produce covers much of the population’s needs for both wheat grains and flour.

Palestinian families living in the rural areas of Gaza wait anxiously for the wheat harvest season in order to secure their annual needs of food pay their debts build homes help their children get married or travel for pilgrimage.
