Gazans rally in solidarity with hunger strikers Shadeed and Abu Fara

Thursday 1-December-2016

Scores of Palestinian citizens and national figures participated on Wednesday in a sit-in in the Gaza Strip to express their solidarity with hunger-striking prisoners Anas Shadeed and Ahmed Abu Fara.

The sit-in was organized by the Palestinian ministry of detainees and al-Ahrar Movement in Gaza City and attended by representatives of Palestinian factions and dignitaries.

In his speech during the event deputy minister of detainees Bahauddin Madhoun said the solidarity sit-in was the least the Palestinians in Gaza could do to support the steadfastness of the prisoners in Israeli jails.

“Our prisoners have sacrificed their happiness and freedom for us in order to be able to live in our homeland with dignity … we should respond to that with more devotion and sacrifice” Madhoun added.

He strongly denounced the administrative detention policy used by Israel against the Palestinians describing it as a “death sentence” calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

Shadid 19 and Abu Fara 29 have been on hunger strike since September 25. They have both been jailed without charge or trial since last August. They are currently being threatened with forcible treatment and forced feeding in Assaf Harofeh hospital should they continue their strike.

Both of them are suffering now from life-threatening health complications as a result of their long hunger strike.
