Gilboa prison: 3 new corona cases

Wednesday 11-November-2020

The Palestinian Prisoner Club said in a statement on Wednesday that 360 prisoners in Gilboa are at high risk of acquiring coronavirus as the virus continues to spread among them.

The Club pointed out that coronavirus spread widely in two sections inside the prison which are sections No. 3 and 1. Section 3 was allocated for quarantine and isolation because the number of infections reached 87. 11 new infections were recorded in section No.1 on Tuesday in addition to two new cases in section No. 4.

Wa’ed Association for Prisoners and Liberated Prisoners reported on Tuesday evening that three new cases of coronavirus were recorded among prisoners in Gilboa prison. This brings the total number of infections on Tuesday to 11 cases.

Wa’ed stated that the total number of prisoners infected with coronavirus has increased to 123 since the beginning of the pandemic 100 of which are in Gilboa Prison.

The administration of Gilboa prison closed all its sections and announced it as a “Red” area. The new cases were transferred and quarantined in section No. 3.

Gilboa’s prisoners face difficult conditions and it is possible that the number of coronavirus infections will increase.

The Club considered what is happening in Gilboa prison a dangerous development that requires serious and clear intervention from all the competent authorities to ensure the provision of the necessary needs for prisoners.

The occupation prisons’ administration is fully responsible for the prisoners’ lives in Gilboa prison. The IPS procrastinated in collecting samples of the prisoners despite the clear symptoms that they suffered which led to the spread of the virus infection quickly according to the Club.

It renewed its demand for all human rights institutions on top of which the United Nations and the World Health Organization to put pressure on Israel to release the sick and the elderly prisoners.
