Girl killed for intention to stab soldier at Za’atara checkpoint

A Palestinian teenage girl was killed Wednesday afternoon by Israeli border policemen after she allegedly intended to carry out a stabbing attack at Za’atara (Tapuach) checkpoint south of Nablus.

The girl was identified as 19-year-old Raheeq al-Birawi a resident of Asira ash-Shamaliya in Nablus.

According to the Israeli police the girl was walking toward border police officers stationed at the Tapuach junction.

Their statement claimed an officer noticed her and warned other officers who called on her to stop and fired warning shots in the air.

When she refused to heed their calls they shot and killed her they added.

The police prevented a Red Crescent ambulance crew from evacuating or providing the girl with medical help and declared their intent to detain her body until further notice.
