Gov’t employees to take part in midday pro-Jerusalem protests

Wednesday 20-December-2017

The Palestinian government decided to allow all civil servants at its departments and institutions in the Gaza Strip and the occupied territories to leave their workplaces earlier on Wednesday to participate in protests in solidarity with Occupied Jerusalem.

A spokesperson for the government stated on Tuesday that work at all government facilities would be suspended at 11:30 am to allow civil servants to take part in midday protests to be staged to denounce the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Violent confrontations have been flaring up between Palestinian young men and Israeli military and security forces for days in protest at the US decision over Jerusalem.

Several Palestinians were killed and hundreds were injured by Israeli gunfire during the events.

Millions of people around the world have also taken to the streets over recent days condemning the US decision.
