According to Muhjat al-Quds Foundation for Martyrs Prisoners and the Wounded prisoner Abido started his hunger strike on December 2 to pressure the Israeli prison service to provide him with medical treatment.

Prisoner Abido suffers from paralysis in one of his legs after his exposure to Israeli gunfire in a previous incident.

He asked the prison administration several times to provide him with treatment and obtained promises from jailers but they did nothing for him so far and decided instead to put him in an isolation cell after he started his hunger strike.
