Hamas: Any measure against Aqsa will trigger widespread anger

Friday 16-August-2019

The Hamas Movement has warned that any measure against the Aqsa Mosque will trigger widespread angry reactions in all areas of Palestine.

This came in a statement released following an emergency meeting held on Thursday by Hamas in Gaza where its officials discussed the recent events at the Aqsa Mosque.

The Israeli occupation police allowed about 1336 Jewish settlers to defile the Aqsa Mosque’s courtyards last Sunday the first day of Eid al-Adha and violently attacked Muslim worshipers.

“Jerusalem is a red line and any aggression against the Aqsa Mosque is an attack on the [Muslim] nation especially the Palestinian people” Hamas stated.

Hamas also described Israel’s targeting of Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque as part of the US-backed deal of the century stressing the need for real national unity to defend them.

Hamas called for holding a high-level meeting on Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque between heads of factions and national forces in Gaza warning of Israeli plans to divide the Aqsa Mosque and build the alleged temple mount.

The Movement appealed to Jordan’s King Abdullah II to take tangible steps to protect the Aqsa Mosque against Israel’s treacherous intents.

It also urged Morocco’s King Mohamed VI to activiate the role of the Jerusalem Committee in his capacity as its chairman in order to protect the Aqsa Mosque and exert pressure on the international community to criminalize Israel’s practices in the holy city.
