The Islamic Movement has described recent remarks made by Fatah officials about the Palestinian reconciliation as “a mere media stunt” affirming that the leadership of Fatah refuses to lift its sanctions on Gaza and rejects political partnership.
“What is being circulated by Fatah leaders about the issue of the reconciliation and submitting papers in this regard is nothing more than a maneuver and a media stunt” Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in a press release on Saturday.
“Such Fatah move is only aimed at covering up the separatist steps taken by its chief Mahmoud Abbas and the crime of his punitive measures against our people in the Gaza Strip” Barhoum added.
The spokesman stressed the need for Fatah to remove its measures against Gaza respect the principle of partnership and start to honor previous reconciliation agreements especially the 2011 Cairo agreement and the 2017 Beirut understandings.
Fatah officials recently claimed through their media outlets that their leadership had sent a message to Hamas through Cairo about the national reconciliation.
