The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas on Monday condemned the recent “hostile” statements by the US president Donald Trump’s envoy to the Middle East Jason Greenblatt against Hamas and the Palestinian resistance.
Hamas’s spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in a press statement that Greenblatt’s remarks are aimed at providing cover for Israel’s crimes against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip which are openly backed by the US.
The US official has recently visited the Israeli settlements in the vicinity of the Gaza Strip. Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said on its website that Greenblatt met with senior Israeli officers and was accompanied in his visit by the so-called Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Yoav Mordechai.
Greenblatt’s program included a visit to an underground tunnel which the Israeli army claims that it was dug by the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.
He later wrote on Twitter that Hamas wastes resources on tunnels and rockets to attack Israel instead of helping the people of Gaza by providing electricity and water and improving the economy.
Posting a picture of him inside the tunnel along with other Israeli officers Greenblatt accused Hamas of spreading hate speech and violence saying that “Gaza deserves better”.
